Ungerleider Palliative Care Lecture Series at CPMC, The CPMC Foundation & CPMC Faculty Leadership Excellence Program present:
"Difficult Decisions: Promoting Mindfulness and Shared Mind in Clinical Practice"
The most difficult decisions in medicine occur when the stakes are high, emotions are intense and evidence is unclear about what course of action is best. For clinicians and patients and their families, it often feels like navigating without a map. Mindful practitioners are able to bring their whole minds, which includes expertise, mindfulness and emotional intelligence, to the care of patients, and achieve “shared mind” with patients and their families.
Learning objectives - By the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Articulate different approaches to clinical decision-making in the face of uncertainty.
2. Describe how mindfulness and shared mind can contribute to wiser more durable decisions
Ronald M. Epstein, M.D. is Professor of Family Medicine, Psychiatry & Oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
